After leaving the Lafayette River at 0800 and motoring north past the inbound Kalmar Nyckel [Delaware’s Tall Ship] we made our way out onto the Bay where we banged our way north against wind (NE rather than E) and tide (full ebb). It was Sis-Boom-Bang-Bang-Bang till 1400.
When we turned the corner at Wolf Trap Light
(photo above) headed for the Piankatank (we gave up on reaching Prentice Creek given our speed over ground was as little as 3.5 kts in the morning at times). The conditions didn’t so much improve as our course changed. We were glad we banged our way north as the Norfolk area was hit by storms and had Tornado Watches well into the evening.
