Earthquakes — Real Time

Richter 8.9 quake off Japan reported this a.m. I’ve added a “stamp” link to the right on Real-time Earthquake reporting.

This link provides the same information in Google Earth

The image is the forecast for the Tsunami [energy] associated with the quake

The magnitude 8.9 earthquake that struck Friday off the coast of Japan “is going to be among the top 10 earthquakes recorded since we have had seismographs,” said seismologist Susan Hough of the US Geological Survey in Pasadena. “It’s bigger than any known historic earthquake in Japan, and bigger than expectations for that area.” (LA Times)

One response to “Earthquakes — Real Time

  1. Was recently in Onahama, just south of Sendai, Beautiful coast and lovely people. Thinking of them..

The wave energy picture is very interesting, amazing how directional it is and how quickly it is damped by shallow (relatively..) water, near australia. We have warnings for unusual currents on the east coast, but thats all.
