Lest Auld Aquaintance Be Forgot…

We are back aboard after nearly three weeks on the road. It was:

  • Slidell, Louisiana
  • Houston, Texas
  • Bryan, Texas
  • San Antonio, Texas
  • Buda, Texas
  • Arlington, Texas
  • Marshall, Texas
  • Brookeland, Texas
  • Slidell, Louisiana
  • Shalimar, Florida
  • St Augustine.

We drove farther in Texas than we drove getting there and back. We had wonderful visits with friends in Slidell, Shalimar and Niceville. We saw our niece Erin married in a lovely Houston wedding. We visited my college roommate, my Mom and my Dad. We celebrated Janet’s Dad’s 97th. We rested on the shores of Sam Rayburn Reservoir. Oh, and Buda was a stop at Cabela’s for Columbia clothing on sale.

While it sounds stressful, it was far more joyful. The hospitality from family and friends was generous and delicious. We are blessed to be related to or friends of so many chefs. My beef meter is pegged, but we had the best steaks we’ve ever eaten–thanks Marilyn. And we have recharged our regional food batteries.

The weather saved its (mild) tantrums for days when we had no place to go in no hurry.

Now we shift our focus south and east. We are headed toward the Keys with an expectation we will head for the Abacos in March…but we are cruising again, and the weather will guide, constrain and delight us.
