Trimotor (Smithsonian)

Ford Trimotor — A Stout design and my Dad’s first plane ride.

When I was in chemical engineering school, I hung out with the aero guys because that’s what I wanted to be, and they built and flew and crashed radio controlled models as I did. One of them studied under a guy who worked for William Bushnell Stout while at Ford after The War. The title here was Stout’s maxim for design.
