Now we have to add 18+ cases have been reported in the St Lucie area. As noted before, there is no immunization and the disease is bad.

Moving north is bad as well. We have seen the Dengue mosquito here in Brunswick. Sans the virus we hope.

  1. Does it come from mozzies only? I know they are part of food chain and all but they sure are vicious. Would it really upset the balance if we reduced the mozzie population?

    • “Dengue is transmitted by several species of mosquito within the genus Aedes, principally A. aegypti. The virus has four different types; infection with one type usually gives lifelong immunity to that type, but only short-term immunity to the others. Subsequent infection with a different type increases the risk of severe complications. As there is no commercially available vaccine, prevention is sought by reducing the habitat and the number of mosquitoes and limiting exposure to bites.”Source

Boat across from us has a dinghy cover full of water — combination mozzie nursery and grackle bath!
