Mediterranean Cruise — Racing the Royal Clipper

Off the coast of Sardinia approaching Costa Smerelda we rendezvoused with the Royal Clipper, a five masted full rigged ship for a bit of racing. While a bigger rig and a longer waterline makes the Royal an inherently faster ship, our barkentine can hold her own in moderate winds because of her mostly fore and aft rig — and because a runaway is bad for the passenger experience. Besides, sailing along a little over 100 feet apart at 13 knots is an utter blast! The looks on people’s faces pretty much say’s it all — awe, joy, satisfaction!

Please enjoy the photos. Photos without captions don’t really need them. Click on first one to scroll.
